Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, alongside local officials and Suffolk County Police personnel, cut the ribbon on the new Suffolk County Police Department Canine facility, replacing temporary trailers that housed the unit on October 27.

“Suffolk County will stay the safest county in America if we make the necessary investments today for a safer tomorrow,” said Romaine. “The canine units are a critical part of law enforcement.”

The new facility is temperature-controlled with 24-hour surveillance to keep canine units safe and secure. The facility also includes training areas and indoor-outdoor kennel areas.

“Our canines play an important role in protecting Suffolk County, and their health and safety are a priority,” said Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina. “This long-overdue facility provides modern accommodations with enhanced safety features for our dogs and a much-needed workspace for their handlers. I want to thank everyone who helped make this project a reality.”

The facility was built and designed in-house, saving taxpayers $300,000 in design costs. Construction also came in within budget.
